Development of children through football
The Clarence Mlokoti Annual Tournament has presented the LTZ Foundation with an
opportunity to showcase football as a tool for social change, as it provided opportunities to
the underprivileged children in the Chris Hani District Municipality. This initiative sought to
drive tangible social spinoffs such as youth development, community upliftment and
enhance social cohesion in under-resourced rural areas.
Established in 2010, the tournament is hosted annually in Tsomo in the Eastern Cape in
honour of the late Clarence Mlokoti who gave dedicated more than 30 years selfless service
to Kaizer Chiefs Football Club, and to the South African football. The Tournament was
established in 2010.
Our strategic partnership with the University of Pretoria (TUKS) has opened opportunities to
excelling players, coaches and administrators, as they get exposure to world class facilities
and training from some of the top coaches in the country.
The tournament’s key objectives are:
- To facilitate and promote football in the Chris Hani District Municipality;
- To unite and facilitate the establishment of a lasting collaboration amongst football clubs in the region;
- To provide football opportunities to the youth in the region; and
- To impart and develop skills in the form of education and training and in turn support the sustainability of sport through promoting good administration, technical and coaching skills.
Community Outreach Programme
This programme was conceived through Luthando’s annual birthday celebrations in 2008. A
year later, it was strategically aligned to the Mandela Day to encourage people to give 67
minutes of their time, whether with supporting chosen charity organisations or serving local
communities.
Back in 2008 Luthando adopted Leamogetswe Safety Home, an orphanage home in
Attridgeville, Pretoria, to give support, inspire and infuse hope to the children at the Home
while celebrating his birthday annual with them. The event has over the years attracted an
impressive wide range of individuals from sports, arts and culture, and community building
organizations.
During such events, prominent personalities largely from sport and entertainment sectors
ordinarily share their life experiences, and offer motivation to the children at the home.
Those in attendance are also encouraged to make pledges to the Home based on the needs
of the orphanage.
Life Skills programme
This programme is there to prepare youth and young adults through motivational talks at
schools. Through this program we hope to sensitize youth to be ready, positive and strive for
excellence as they are the next generation and future leaders.
Through this programme LTZ Foundation has forged partnerships with schools in the Eastern
Cape, including Luthando Zibeko’s former school Nonkunzi SPS (Cacadu, Lady Frere); Gcingca
Junior Secondary (Mkhwinti, Tsomo); St. Johns College in Umtata; Mount Arthur Junior
Secondary School.
By 2020, the Foundation’s long-term plan is to expand the programme and reach out to
primary schools in the Intsika Yethu Municipality.
The Foundation also sought to establish more partnerships that will not only solicit financial
support but human and intellectual capital so as to ensure the sustainability of the
programmes. The long term vision is to partner with public, private and community building
sectors to build an institution that will be a centre for social and economic opportunities and
support for the young people.
